I’ve never been a collector of books. My reading is strictly utilitarian. As Jesus was glad to eat with tax collectors and sinners, so too am I happy to settle down with Goodwill discards and ex-library books. But I did let it be known that I wouldn’t mind having the attractive Everyman Wodehouse collection, so for my recent birthday, the Lady of the House started the ball rolling. 16 down, 83 to go. I also encouraged her to make a spreadsheet of all the titles for easy reference, so she’s just as happy as a pig in…Blandings Castle.

Nice. These are from Overlook rather than Everyman, aren’t they? I love these too and probably own a dozen or so. My only complaint: I wish the print was just a bit bigger.

Nope, these are the Everyman. There’s a British site that will sell 65 titles for what amounted to about $600, but it would cost another $300 to ship them to the States.

Interesting. Must be a joint venture of some kind, or maybe Everyman took over for Overlook at some point, since mine appear to be the same edition in terms of binding, cover art, etc. Rather than reading “Everyman” on the spine, however, mine have an image of an elephant and the name “Overlook Press.” Maybe Everyman improved on Overlook by bumping up the font size a couple points.

I started off with the British versions, shipped to me as they were published. But they became too expensive (mostly due to shipping) so I switched to the American editions. I now have a “mixed” but complete set of the 99 books and just finished reading them all again last year!

If you have any duplicates causing overspill, I will gladly take them off your hands

Sorry, I’ve only ever owned a few compilations. Most of his novels, I borrowed from the library.

I was under the impression that Overlook and Everyman were basically the same, the only difference being Everyman is published in Britain and Overlook is published in the United States. I have a smattering of Overlook, Arrow, and a few others, but would love to replace the paperbacks with Overlook/Everyman.

Thanks, Douglas, Linda, and Larry. Maybe I’ll see if there’s anyone selling Overlook editions in bulk and avoid the $300 in shipping to get them from Britain.
